
Dr Huertas is a Consultant Neonatologist at University College London Hospital (UCLH). Her main interests are Neonatal Neurodevelopment and Neonatal Nutrition.
At present, Dr Huertas is the President of BANNFU (British Association of Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow Up), Special Interest Group at the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) in UK; the Medical Lead for the Neurodevelopment follow up service for high-risk infants at UCLH and the North Central & East London Neonatal Network (NCELN) since 2003 and the Lead for Education at the N3 (Neonatal Nutrition Network at BAPM) for the past 7 years. Before this and amongst other fascinating roles, she was joint Lead for the NCEL for five years, Regional Advisor for the NCL Region at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health for 7 years and Chair of the TRPG (Thames Regional Perinatal Group) Outcomes’ group for more than 5 years.
Dr Huertas is and has been actively involved in single and multicentric research studies in high risk neonatal populations, providing not only advice but also essential outcome data; she coordinates local, national and international training courses and conferences aiming at increasing awareness and enhancing knowledge of junior and senior colleagues, on her areas of expertise; She co-authors the ‘2year TRPG/SEND outcomes form’ currently in use for audit and quality improvement projects in neonatal care, and is the author of several book chapters and publications that are widely accessible.
